Front Garden

The brief was for low maintenance but all year interest, a log store and parking for 4 cars.
I made the garden feel deeper by using a diagonal design. Several trees were planted to give height and winter interest from coloured bark. The main driveway is in Tegula drive setts while gravel areas provide additional occasional parking. The log store has an internal light which is both practical and attractive at night.

The client wanted to keep most of the lawn but increase the interest of the garden. The play house was no longer needed. The planting style was to be cottage but fairly low maintenance.

The existing patio and pergola were kept, but the shapes softened by adding a herb bed. New winding paths were added, the borders re-shaped in bold curves, and the play house replaced by an additional seating area to catch the evening sun. Maintenance is reduced by a mowing strip, use of a heavy mulch and choice of plants.

Before Re-design

A sloping garden with a rather dangerous and overgrown pond was the challenge facing the new owner here. Her brief was to get rid of the pond and lawn, reduce the maintenance, and have splashes of colour throughout the year.

Having re-homed the 25 fish, the pond was filled in with the surrounding stones and excess soil that had been piled up at the top of the garden. What a difference terracing the garden made, there is so much more useable space. The new design allows you to wander around the garden and enjoy the planting as it develops.
